Pomegranate is an excellent source of dietary fibers, vitamins C, K, folic acid, potassium and a plethora of antioxidants with strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects against cancer cells. Pomegranate contains large amounts of elaggitannins, which are bioactive polyphenols. Elaggitannins also include the unique type of punicalagins, which are characterized as the polyphenols of the largest molecular mass. Except from punicalagins, pomegranate contains other polyphenols such as anthocyanins and flavonols.
